Strategies for Compassion
Ignited with newfound aplomb, Luna, Mother of the Night, eagerly throws on the scarlet cloak of fiery Aries. Looking through the all-penetrating eyes of the Ram, she beholds how the Gods are suffering. Sol and Mars, down and out in the signs of their fall, were recently embroiled in a strenuous exchange involving exaggerated stories about girlfriends and mothers. Lying idly on the couch, sulking, their petty and fruitless competition drags them further into a spiral of weariness and discontent. Our Silvery Lady shakes her head, turning to Jupiter for hope, but alas… snoring loudly, the God of Wisdom and Beer is happily hibernating, finally released from the constant chatter produced by overexcited twins.
With Jupiter retrograde in the sign of his detriment, Gemini, less energy is spent on trying to make sense of the multitude of happenings, thoughts, and tasks in the Twin’s realm. Supported by Mercury in Scorpio, there’s more time to make efficient decisions without the confusion or sheer overwhelm of juggling everything all at once.
In a superior square to Mars, whose fierce war cry is muted in Cancer, Luna is called by duty to take the lead with full force. She does so, but only reluctantly. It's the type of leadership that often comes with burdens and responsibilities that are neither desired nor easy to bear. Unfamiliar with Arian directness and urgency, Luna decides to focus first on mustering courage. Grappling with the flame of assertiveness, gradually burning stronger within her, she realizes how intensely alive she feels.
Her glorious light, glowing at maximum brightness on October 17 at 4:26 am PT (your time) radiates a bold can-do attitude that permeates all realms. Independent and unafraid to take risks, Luna wears her heart like a battle flag, charging headfirst into situations that need her attention. At this culminating moment, the Moon is arguably the strongest of all deities, and fortunately, she’s not left to her own device.
Bound in an unusual partnership - a mutual reception - Luna and Mars hold the keys to each other’s dwellings. They know each other's secrets, but how to work together constructively involves a whale-sized question mark. In Cancer, Mars’s willpower is softened by the ceaseless tides of emotion. His armor, rusty from wading through the relentless currents of care, no longer serves as a means for self-defense and exposes his vulnerability. “That must feel so humiliating to such a bold warrior as Ares,” Our Lady cries out with a compassion that launches her into action.

The separating square acts as a crossroads, summoning Mars and Luna to master the delicate balance between action and feeling, independence and connection. Compassion is not passive; it’s forged in the fire of purpose and the water of empathy.
In tropical signs, the Moon and Mars sense the edge of something big; a tipping point or potential breakthrough is just a step away. In a time like this, it’s okay to take risks and create our own circumstances. It’s a matter of getting our priorities straight. What is it that truly matters? Remember that the most significant victories are born from the most demanding challenges.
In the meantime, Venus, standing before Scorpio’s exit door, is ready to swap her gothic wardrobe for something more cheerful just hours after the Full Moon. She can’t wait to let her tantalizing locks dry by the faith-nourishing fires of Sagittarius and venture onto its luscious hunting grounds, aiming for more pleasurable goals.
In her last Scorpion act, she’s assisting the God of the Underworld through a soothing sextile. In the process of returning to full strength, Pluto has been working hard to tie all the loose ends of his grand Capricorn projects. There is no such thing as unfinished business in Saturn’s domain, so rest assured, Pluto will metamorphose everything into place.

Mars is gradually slowing down and entangled in a mutual application to perfect a sextile with Uranus on October 24. As our rebellious inner child demands our attention, we might as well start buckling up early to prepare for one of the most intense aspects of the year, the Mars/Pluto opposition, on November 3. Let’s keep our palette clear, as the current syzygy in Mars’s sign might give us a taste of what’s to come.
