As I was dreaming into the meditation for this Pisces New Moon, I was moved by the dual properties of Black Tourmaline and Rose Quartz. Pisces is the temple where Jupiter and Venus love to imagine, dream, and wash away our sense of self from the mundane world. However, creating for the long-term needs form, control, and boundaries. Even the most ethereal poetry is subject to paper or a computer file to stand the test of time.
With Saturn firmly ensconced in the watery sign of the double fishes, this New Moon reflects that duality. While Saturn’s presence could be seen as dampening the natural significations of the benefics, Venus does hold a soft spot for the Taskmaster. The two planets are in mixed reception at the beginning of this lunar cycle, working with form and aesthetics, a solid foundation for a new seed of creativity to sprout.
May this ritual be a wellspring for cultivating ideas that can flourish in the new season just over the horizon. - Saffron
Black Tourmaline and Rose Quartz
Schorl is another name for Black Tourmaline, a foundational gem used for the Earth Star or base chakra in crystal healing work. Deeply protective and cleansing of the self and the environment, Black Tourmaline holds us gently in place when our emotions become flighty. It brings us tenderly back to our bodies while also holding a barrier to heavy outside influences, both material and ethereal.
Rose Quartz, a readily available favourite, comes in large chunks and therefore can be formed into shapes. It is especially good for healing heart-centered wounding, fostering self-love, and helping to release the negative programming that comes with self-criticism.
Rose Quartz is often combined with Black Tourmaline in jewellery and crystal grids. The combination creates a protective cover over the aura so that the inner self can heal and readjust to new positive self-programming.
Crystal Meditation for Creativity
Preparation
You will need five energy-cleansed Black Tourmaline and a single Rose Quartz; a heart shape would be a bonus for this meditation. (If you don’t have crystals, try substituting photos.)
Find a quiet time. Either dusk or dawn works well, but anytime you can have 20 minutes to yourself is good.
If you have a gem essence prepared for cleansing the area or incense you can burn, use that to prepare your space. Tidying your work area and cleansing the space is all part of the ritual, so always try to do this as mindfully as possible before your meditation practice.
As we are looking to open our hearts to the loving expression of creativity, if you have a favourite meditation music or soundscape that you would like to use, put this on as a gentle background soundtrack. Many free apps can audibly support our meditation practice.
Once your space is clear, place four of the Black Tourmaline in a square or rectangle around the space you are sitting or lying in. Start at the Northernmost point and work clockwise as you lay the stones.
Sit in a straight-back chair or lie on your back in a comfortable spot within the square and place the fifth Black Tourmaline at your feet.
Hold your Rose Quartz cupped in your hands, or if lying down, place the crystal on your heart area and close your eyes.
Take five deep breaths, holding slightly on the end of each inhale and exhale. Then, breathe naturally.
Feel the grounding energy of the Black Tourmaline between your feet and breathe into that space. The crystal supports your foundation and connects you to the Earth gently but securely. Imagine that the other four Tourmalines collect any excess debris or heavy energy from around your space, creating a safe bubble within your square.
Mediation
As you continue to breathe rhythmically, you begin to hear the sea in the distance. Maybe you hear some seabirds above and the wind blowing around you.
Picture yourself walking toward the sound on a small sandy path, how does the surrounding area look to you, do you recognise anything here?
As you walk slowly through the sand and coarse grasses, you find yourself on a beach; there are no other people about, and you are completely safe.
There are rock pools to examine and debris from a recent storm to sift through. Do you notice anything of interest here? What do you find? If it is living, acknowledge and thank it for appearing to you. If it is inanimate, collect it and place it in your pocket or bag.
Now you begin to notice the clouds building thicker and faster and the sea beginning to push against the beach with more tumultuous energy. You are safe, but you may feel pensive or slightly overwhelmed with the enormous energy of the sea as waves break with more force.
Acknowledge any feelings of disquiet, overwhelm, or strong emotions if you have them. Perhaps you are happy with the powerful water energy pushing further up the beach. Rain begins to fall on you, and you open your arms and thank the energy that flows around you.
Feel the waves helping you release any pent-up emotions. Take as much time as you need.
When you are ready, you notice behind you a small path leading away from the beach, and your curiosity leads you on.
As you leave the overwhelming noise of the sea, the sound begins to fade, the rain slows, and you begin to hear songbirds in the low trees and hedges.
The path leads to a grove with a rocky outcrop. Beautifully carved within the stone is a well pool with a small flow of water emanating from a natural spring in the rock above it. You know just by looking that the water here is pure and clean.
As you move forward, you realise that the only sounds now are the birds around you and the trickle of the water from the fountain.
Moving forward, you feel a sense of enormous peace and calm as you place your hands under the stream of water and drink from the spring. The water is invigorating and regenerating, yet unlike the overwhelming force of the sea, this water nourishes from within. You begin to picture the projects you have been holding back on, starting to take shape in your mind.
You have a feeling of deep contentment and peace.
As you look down into the pool below, you see two golden fishes swimming in graceful circles around one another in a lemniscate. Sit by the pool and watch the fishes in their eternal dance. As your imagination and ideas start to form fully, you now know the first steps that will help you begin your new creative projects. Hold these thoughts in place so you can come back to them in your fully conscious state.
In your mind's eye, now close down the scene and begin to concentrate on your breathing again until you are ready to come back to your body and the physical plane.
Give thanks for all that you have witnessed and any gifts you have received. Take five deep breaths to reconnect to the Earth and open your eyes.
To Conclude
Once you have come back to your space remember to remove your grid in reverse order. Thank your crystals for helping you through your meditation and then cleanse them and the working space thoroughly.
Get a drink of water and keep hydrated through the day.
Write down in a notebook anything that you noticed or want to remember. Check back over the Moon cycle to see if any of your journey comes to light through the month.
Can you close your eyes and feel the connection to the well of your creativity? If you are having moments where you are unable to focus on a task, close your eyes and bring your awareness back to the pool.
