Set up your New Moon altar using any of the suggested items from the list above. Add personal symbols like photos of loved ones, representations of your spiritual path, or the four elements (especially fire). Find a small box with a lid for treasures and place it on your altar. Fill it with everything Jupiter loves, and leave room for your prayers.
Begin by lighting a candle and incense. Move the smoke around to bless your altar. When you are ready invite planetary and spiritual guides, ancestors, the four elements or directions, and all other loving guidance that wants to come.
Invoke Jupiter, the planet of expansiveness, optimism, and gratitude, with a poem or a blessing. Drape yourself in royal blue, gaze into the candle’s flame, offer spiced rum or cognac. Humbly ask Jupiter to guide your hero/shero’s journey with an open heart.
When ready, ask yourself the following questions and write your answers on separate pieces of paper. Alternatively, you can blow your thoughts into flower petals or tree leaves, and then lay them in Jupiter’s “treasure chest” sprinkling herbs on top.
What you have learned about your true nature through this time of change and instability? What are the new stories you want to explore? What risks are you willing to take in order to walk a new path? Add as many other questions as you can conjure, ones that evoke new adventures and an examination of your core beliefs.
If desired, pull one or more cards from a divination deck for added guidance. Take time to meditate on any insights you’ve had, and form an intention for the month, something that will expand your horizons and stoke the “rapture of being alive.”
When you are done, marry your prayers and intentions for the month with an offering and close the lid to your treasure chest. At the Full Moon, open the box and add any new insights, and then, just before the next New Moon, give them over to the fire as you ready yourself for the new cycle.
