The upcoming New Moon feels like a breath of fresh mutable air as the Sun and Moon meet in Gemini on May 30, 4:30am (PST). After an intense and tragic eclipse season, this is the first lunation that doesn’t herald another eclipse. That alone feels like a relief as we move from wrestling with intractable fixed energy to embracing a more expansive mutable tone. Of course, life is a dance between light and shadow, and this lunar month offers both as the celestial spheres invite a deeper engagement for processing and integration.
Fortunately, with lunation ruler Mercury retrograde, and in the sweet earth sign of Taurus, knowing doesn’t have to come from our thinking minds alone. There are currents of wisdom available when we listen to the wind, the birds, to the thriving pulse of mother Earth herself.
From my perch, this Gemini New Moon tickles a fresh, even daring approach. One that pries us away from habitual thought patterns and invites us to adjusts our sails as we navigate new ways of being in the world.
New Moon Gemini 9 Degrees
How do you know what you know? Do you take to heart and believe every thought in your head? How do you channel or relinquish negative thought patterns? How and why do you censor yourself? What ignites your passion? What are you willing to fight for? Can you inhale beauty, joy, and love and then exhale grief, sadness, and anger, as one continuous life-giving rhythm?

These are some of the questions that come to mind this month as we revel in Gemini’s curious, open-minded, data-gathering, thought-provoking energy field. Our guide, Mercury, is the messenger from the unseen to the seen, the translator, the one who tricks the mind in order to find truth. Insight comes from communicating but also from deep listening. And in true Gemini form, Mercury is speaking and listening in a variety of ways during this lunation.
Mercury Rx in the slow but steady sign of Taurus (with Venus co-present and strong in her home sign) says, “stop and smell the roses,” find joy in beauty, eat good food, dig in the dirt, relish the simple pleasures. What can you learn from the speed of a slug? Any pause you take may help with typical Mercury Rx events such as miscommunication, confusion, travel snafus, and garden variety delays. It’s okay to second-guess yourself before charging forward.
With Mercury near the degree of the lunar eclipse back in mid-May, take time to reflect on what you have lived and learned since the opening of eclipse season on April 30. Mercury in “aversion” to Gemini begs a both/and approach to deeper awareness—being alongside thinking.
A final square to a superior Saturn demands we go beyond conditioned thought patterns and worried mind loops that get us nowhere. Saturn is the reality principle and beckons concrete practices and sustainable, supportive structures as we strive to redraw our mind maps. Pluto and Neptune also have something to offer Mercury via empowering messages from the unconscious, truth-telling, tickling our imagination, and inviting embodied spiritual connections that build resilience.
Finally, the New Moon makes a separating sextile to Mars and Jupiter. Together we’ve seen the worst of what these two planets signify—Jupiter expanding Mars fiery, violent side. But they also denote boldness and courage to stand up against injustice, fight for what’s right, and to align our actions with our morals and values. Unfortunately, there will be no shortage of opportunities to build these muscles as time goes on.
While the spirit may be longing to fly on the wild currents, it may be mid-month before the pace quickens. Mercury stations direct June 3 and ingresses into its home sign in Gemini on June 13. There is movement, revelation, perhaps clarity on what is yours to conquer. Saturn Rx beginning June 4 may ask, “What stops you?” The long-standing Saturn square Uranus still rippling from 2021, challenges the old vs the new. Fortunately, with Venus making her way mid-June to join Uranus and the North Node, the future calls. Fueled by love, it’s time to take pioneering actions to the next level.
On June 14, there’s a Full Moon in Sagittarius square Neptune. Check out our Forecast Bites for more info as we approach. In the meantime, I leave you with this snippet from a Rumi poem:
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about.
