The spirit of initiation spirals upward, piercing the sky veil as Luna meets Sol in the Water-Bearer’s sign on February 9 at 3 pm PT (your time). Clouds laden with moisture release buckets of rain washing away layers of stagnant thinking. Look closely; jewels of wise action lay just beneath the surface. Cracked open, important insights are available to those who peer in.
Pluto, co-present at the threshold degree of zero, intensifies this new lunar cycle, as does the young ambassador, Mercury. Saturating the mind with far-reaching ideas, the Winged Messenger, having already experienced the power of the Dark Lord, brings buried bones and treasures to light. Transmissions from the ethers break into consciousness as goosebumps in the wind’s wake or symbols engraved on a sandy beach. Are you paying attention?
This New Moon begs your participation! Saffron Dennis offers another engaging New Moon ritual/meditation. Link here to immerse yourself in the essence of Amber, a gemstone associated with Aquarius.
The first of many new moons in Aquarius with Pluto in-house, we will all become more familiar with the dark musk emanating from the Underworld at this time of year. Perhaps intentions made in January will deepen and take on new life for years to come. Almost like a second new year.
Ruled by Saturn in Pisces, a wellspring of ideas comes from composting cartilage, the whispered longings of the ancestors. The answers you seek may lie at the margins of existence, Saturn’s rebel side. Entwined in an ongoing sextile with Jupiter, the creative juices necessary to advance new thought forms may very well require a new relationship to earth herself.
On February 13, Saturn will crest 8 degrees for the first time since entering Pisces in March 2023. Creative projects are on the horizon, especially when joined by the Sun and Mercury at the end of February. Astrologer Dan Waites writes about a similar configuration from 1965 when MGM studios announced the filming of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stanley Kubrick’s science fiction masterpiece. Given Pluto’s place in Aquarius, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some visionary tour de force projects come to the fore.
Stir the cauldron of your imagination. If you could wave your magic wand, what would you create for yourself and the collective? Claim a new archetype for a new world. Are you a Blessing Giver, an Oracle, a Futurist, a Harmonizer? Go ahead, let your inspiration guide you.
Swirling electrons cast a bigger-than-life energy at this New Moon as the winded, newly betrothed Luminaries blow unpredictable winds via a square to Uranus in Taurus. The electricity coursing through the sky lands at the feet of our best-laid plans. Fixed energies can be difficult to change. Use Saturn’s wise influence to anchor your resources, inner and outer.
It’s not just the Luminaries that will energize air and earth signs. As we talked about in our 2024 highlights, Mars and Venus will follow the Sun and Mercury into Aquarius, meeting the gatekeeper Pluto and then moving on to square Jupiter and then Uranus. It’s as if we are being asked by the starry gods to be more like the pliable earth as we birth new paradigms into existence.
There’s no going to sleep in the month of February! Before the Full Moon, Mars will square Pluto on Feb.14 for a potentially rockin’ time. Not exactly a Valentine’s Day dream transit. Perhaps a clearing is necessary as a precursor to the long-awaited Mars-Venus conjunction on February 20. As Tina Turner says, “What’s love got to do with it?”
Consider this…
Aside from sweeping philosophical endeavors (which I simply can’t resist), this New Moon is an opportunity to ground innovative ideas. Keeping the need for rationality and comfort in mind, even unfathomable storms have potential when we navigate them with integrity and acknowledge real limits. Dream into your own vision of utopia, envision equitable communities based on cooperation, and find new ways of contributing to a world that works for all. The Water-Bearer is on your side.
Side Note: Just as I was about to publish this post, I came upon a news article about AI revealing an ancient text from a charred 2,000-year-old scroll. It spoke loudly about our current astrological symbols (futuristic technology uncovering the past, potentially rewriting what we know about history), and got me to thinking about what AI might offer the field of astrology some day. Read the article here.

So enjoy the artistically powerful and expressive delivery Michelle. You teach me to choose my words with colorful demonstration! From one with Mercury in Sag combusting away. . .
That article is a great find! Now, for once I am really excited about how AI can bring knowledge from our past into our future.
