Set up your New Moon altar using items from the list above. Add photos of loved ones, spirit animals, symbols for the elements, or amulets from your spiritual path. Prepare a glass of water infused with ginger or wintergreen, or any of the Moon’s herbs to sip on throughout the ceremony. Have a pen and paper at the ready.
Begin by lighting a candle and incense. Move the smoke around to bless your altar. Invite planetary and spiritual guides, ancestors, the four elements or directions, and all other loving guidance that wants to come. Welcome the Moon--the cosmic mother whose ever-changing light demonstrates the great cycles of life and the miracle of transformation.
The Moon rules the sign of Cancer, making this New Moon an ideal time to get in touch with all things “home.” Whether it’s making a home, connecting with your inner child, reminiscing, being with family, or nurturing yourself and others, this is a time to focus on what brings you a deep sense of belonging. With a square to Jupiter in Aries, let truth, conviction, and faith be your guides. Dare to follow your gut.
When ready, invoke Luna by imagining her silver light, the mother archetype or the High Priestess tarot card, or anything that makes you feel safe. Choose the questions below that call to you, or create your own. Infuse the water by speaking the question aloud while holding the glass. Sit for a while and ask Luna to help you access your inner knowing. Take several sips of water, feel her love and protection, and listen for answers. Write down thoughts, as desired.
Invoke your inner child and ask, “what can I give you?”
What do I need to feel safe and secure?
What roots me in life?
To whom do I belong?
What is my relationship to giving and receiving?
What does it mean to feel at home in my body?
Which memories are most important to me and why?
Bring to the ceremony whatever else calls to you. Pull one or more cards from a divination deck for added guidance. When you are done, marry your prayers and intentions with gratitude and an offering: sprinkle herbs, offer sweets, or whatever calls you. Use the water to bless your favorite plants.
Thanks so much for the education on the Moon, and her many significations. It adds such depth to the understanding of this lunar cycle.
Thank you Neva, I love all the elements you offer in which to love this moon!
