As we begin the lunar cycle from our beloved Moon’s exaltation sign of Taurus, we send our thoughts into the deep, dark earth, grounding our energy. Our home and vehicle in this lifetime is our bodies. A solid foundation helps us ground and focus our energy into health and well-being, which in turn offers a safe space for our soul to grow as we navigate our daily routine.
Venus, still in her exaltation and now separating from Saturn's clutches, hosts the marriage of the Sun and Moon for this cycle, and Mars will have begun separating from Pluto's opposition.
The last couple of weeks have bought sad news for those who believed in the humanitarian work of a great Solar figure Pope Francis. Whether or not you agreed with his ideas (he certainly was not a fan of astrology) and his work, shining a light on the 700 million people in dire poverty and the billions living on the poverty line, shows a level of compassion that lacks in many world leaders at this time.
Taurean significations include actively working toward good health and a sense of contentment. The Sun, brightly focused in Taurus as the fulcrum of the T-Square, with a Mars-Pluto opposition, has shone a light on the real need and desire for the majority of humanity: comfort through a healthy meal, a safe space to rest one's head, and loving companionship. Life should be that easy. Why do we humans make things so complicated?
While the energy has recently ramped up in intensity, I am finding my greatest solace in the garden: getting down into the soil, pulling up weeds, tidying, clearing, and admiring the mid-spring flowers. I have an array of tulips in various colours that have blessed the front border. The daffodils in the verge across the road are now dying back—they were an absolute joy to behold while the UK was blessed with bright, warm early spring days a couple of weeks ago. And not all the weeds have been sacrificed to the trowel; the bees love the early-flowering dandelions, primroses, and clover.
Enjoying the simple but beautiful things in life is essential when work, the news and other peoples worries suck us in to a well of despair, especially as we often carry more than enough fear and anxiety. Like steering an emotional ship between Scylla and Charybdis, we often find that by managing to manoeuvre ourselves out of one emotional rollercoaster, we plunge into another with our next encounter. It can be exhausting!
Finding a gem ally to assist us as we settle back down, establish our roots, and ground ourselves after a harrowing ride is essential self-care. And sometimes, the best thing we can do is strip everything back to the bare essentials.
Red Jasper
When fatigue strikes, our adrenal glands often require downtime and rest. I don’t know about you all, but the urge for an afternoon nap has been a daily pull lately. (Or maybe that is just my age!) Red stones contain iron, and if you are suffering from tiredness, fatigue, or even low red blood count, a friendly crystal to carry about helps lift that base chakra energy, assisting the flow of blood and therefore oxygen.
Of course, there are always things we can do to lift our energy and spirits. Getting out into the garden, or a local park or green space, can instantly lift our spirits and energy flow. Eating well, drinking water, and herbal teas are essential. Getting a good night's sleep in a nice, comfortable bed helps to heal mind, body, and spirit.
Red Jasper is a combination of minerals that can be found worldwide in various colours and patterns. It is a common stone and will often include clear quartz.
Red Jasper aids digestion and mineral assimilation. It is a lovely crystal to have on the dining table when eating or to hold as a palm stone when relaxing after a good meal. Connecting to the base chakra, the colour red assists in maintaining the body's health by establishing a solid foundation and connection to the earth. Red is the longest wavelength that humans see on the visible spectrum.
Many people on a spiritual path will look to ascend into the higher chakras by practising transcendental meditation and channelling entities. However, these exercises should only be undertaken once you can solidly connect to your physical home, your body, and can easily return to that anchored space. Tiredness that does not stem from physical exertion is often linked to a sense of disconnection or ungroundedness. Red (or Brown) Jasper can be worn for long periods. It can be placed in the pockets of skirts or trousers, which will then support the area of the base and sacral chakra.
Red Jasper Practice
In the practice that follows, we will explore how to safely reconnect with the physical vehicle of the soul, a harmonious blend of Venus and Lunar energy. This solid earth energy is good at helping us set intentions and stick to them.
Take a look at the house placement Taurus in your chart and see where beauty, sensuality, and a grounded foundation can be set. For example, if you have Taurus in the 6th house, as I do, you may need to beautify your workspace so that it doesn’t feel like such an effort to sit or work in that area. For me, this week it has been connected to pets. I felt the need to advocate for rabbits. It’s a long story that I won’t bother you with! If you have Taurus in the first house, then maybe you book to have a facial or set up a set of appointments in the future to have regular massages.
Then, get your notepad out and write down the things that are coming up for you connected to that place. Once you start to notice the areas in life that are calling out, sit with your Red Jasper and set the intention with it to help you achieve those long-term goals, dig your heels in, and get moving, slowly.
Maybe a little ditty will help when connecting to your crystal. I came up with this one below, but you can choose anything that suits your needs. While holding your Jasper in your left hand, say, “Dear spirit of Red Jasper, with whom I hold in my hand, let the earth support me, and in my power stand. Aid me with your loving guidance, grant me peace within. And join with me each day, as my beloved, crystal kin.”
Wear Red Jasper next to your skin, if possible, or place it under your bed in line with your base chakra. Hildegard of Bingen spoke of its ability to bring restful sleep by banishing night terrors. If you get a sunny morning, pop the crystal in a sunny spot for an hour to recharge, and remember to cleanse your crystals regularly.
Happy New Moon to you all!

Thank you Saffron for this post and Happy New Moon in Taurus ♉️. As a Virgo rising, I love a grounded spiritual practice with Taurus being my ninth house. One way I have been enjoying this is a weekly tarot guidance spread and daily reflections on how I see the cards coming to life. Also I have a simple ritual of lighting a beeswax tealight in my selenite candle holder that always feels like a simple way to create some sacred space. Appreciate your integration of astrology and crystals, it's a lovely pairing!
I'm a Taurus rising. However, venus is in the 12th and self care is not my strength although now I'm aware of it and know it's a blind spot i make slightly better choices. I love your posts Saffron.
