It’s a big week in the cosmic ebb and flow, so our talented writers at Astrum Opus have joined forces to bring you our signature articles in one digest. This is our first experiment using a single post highlighting individual articles with links. Read it at your leisure, and please let us know if you like it. If our readership numbers are good, we can greatly expand what we offer without inundating your inbox!
In this digest, Alison covers the Sun’s ingress into Cancer with a focus on the body and self-care, including a guided audio meditation. Saffron combines her plant knowledge and astrological interpretation to ring in the Solstice, paired with Heather’s tarot spread. (Ordinarily, the tarot offering is a paid subscriber perk only, but for this inaugural digest, we are making it available to all.) And lastly, Michelle, Liz, and Neva illuminate the Full Moon in Capricorn.
As always, thank you for your support. Please consider upgrading to a paid subscription or a one-time donation. - The AO Team
The Sun Enters Cancer: June 20, 2024
By Alison Dale
Helios’ sunny chariot is making its way to the high point in the Wheel of the Year on June 20, ringing in the Solstice and the initiation of Cancer season. This year’s Solstice is just one day apart from a brilliant Strawberry Full Moon, the first of two full moons that lie in Capricorn’s domain this year.
Transitioning from the buzz and cacophony of Gemini’s pollinating frenzy, the Sun’s ingress into the sign of the Crab feels like a much-needed respite. Gemini season ended with a few tense planetary squares. Remember those? Venus/Saturn, the Sun/Saturn, Mercury/Saturn, Venus/Neptune, and Mars/Pluto!
Guided Meditation for Cancer Season: Audio and Transcript
By Alison Dale
Find a comfortable position that allows you to feel grounded and relaxed. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, letting tranquility envelop you like a warm blanket. Cancer, the nurturing crab, rules over the chest, breasts, and stomach. During this meditation, we will focus our attention on these areas, inviting the protective and nurturing energy of Cancer into our experience.
Summer Solstice 2024: St. John’s Wort
By Saffron Dennis
Traditionally, this is the time when the Holly King begins to dominate as the dark slowly takes over from the light. But another plant associated with this festival is the bright yellow flowered herb of St John’s Wort, Hypericum perforatum. The yellow blooms of the flowers reflect the Sun's brilliance on a clear sunny day, a gentle reminder that behind the clouds, the Sun is always there, radiating its beneficial heat.
A Litha Tarot Celebration
By Heather Marie Morse
Litha, known as the Summer Solstice, marks a time of intense light and profound reflection. As the longest day of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere) illuminates our skies, it's an opportune moment to turn inward and consider what fuels and illuminates us, much like the Sun that hangs seemingly motionless above. Litha, the "lightest of the light,” ushers in the nurturing waters of Cancer season, a time to flow with emotional currents and embrace our intuitive powers.
Full Moon in Capricorn: June 21, 6:07 pm PT
By Michelle Corbesier, Liz Wickhart, and Neva Welton
Chilled to the spine, Luna feels cast out, a SeaGoat scraping her unlikely fishtail against a barren shoreline. Far from her summer-streaked home, she journeys into a recurrent dream of exile, though something is different this month as crab-laced waters dominate her cycle.
“Bleak be damned,” coos a watery Sol freshly doused at one degree of Cancer. Welcoming Luna’s celestial arrival, Solstice energy permeates new emotions. Feeling his warm heart-splitting rays rearrange her depth, the dark earth Moon trades forlorn for fullness. Accepting her role as the Queen of Mirrors, she balances her edgy, regal ambition and detachment with a wise, nurturing light.
