New Moon in Cancer

Thirsty for the center of her being, Luna reaches for a tall glass of ice water with orange slices and a fancy paper umbrella. It’s always so comforting to orbit back to the sign of Cancer, reconnecting to the well-spring of what is most familiar, free to emote, free to hold.  

With little interruption since arriving in her domicile, the Queen of Hydration has had time to relax in anticipation of her (re)union with Sol. A year may seem like a long wait for an in-home New Moon ceremony, but there’s no hurry. To everything there is a season, each one inviting us to be present in the now.

The ebb and flow of life fills Luna’s darkened sphere. Moistened by an applying trine to Saturn in Pisces, fate evokes possibilities born from the wombs of our creative souls. Cups runneth over with emotional lubrication, priming the heart and stirring the imagination. Even detours invite new tributaries of discovery. With Saturn retrograde treading at 19 degrees, reflection aids Luna’s penchant for memory and nostalgia. Emotions may lean toward wistfulness or moody conjuncture. Allow whatever wants to come.

Every act of creation is a birth. At this New Moon, take your endeavoring seriously. Whatever you aim to bring into the world needs the care of the mother, the midwife, and the magician. Perhaps it’s time to resurrect a project or connection waiting to be nourished again.

Venus, co-present in Cancer, brings her best wedding designer vibes, setting the table with flowers, summer scents, and twinkling lights. Beauty is belonging. Surrounded by family and close friends, it’s a slow food affair cooked up by Mars sextile from Taurus. Expect salty BBQ sauce slathered over everything and impossible to escape! Good vibes are everywhere, most enjoyed with affirming actions.  

Ask for what you need. It’s an act of nurturing. Even if it’s an impossible request, the soul will feel deeply cared for. If you can’t ask out loud, ask in silence. If your inner voice is quiet, listen to your body. Or, ask your soul directly, “What do I need or desire most?”  and then write down whatever comes. Intuition flows at this New Moon.

The start of summer may feel slower or heavier than usual, but there’s plenty of fire coming our way. After the New Moon, Venus will join Mercury already in Leo on July 11, and Mars will join Uranus on July 15. 

Revel in the easy flow of the New Moon now. Bring in the energy of the Divine Mother for healing. Nurture family and friends, and don’t be shy about loving yourself. Neptune, fresh in retrograde at 29 degrees Pisces, is happy to dream with you.

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean—
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down—
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
