At the dark Moon, when intention seeds possibility, Luna glimpses a sparkling new opportunity to grab the reins of her wild imagining. Inspired and ready for adventure after the long slog through Scorpio, this Archer Moon, ruled by a direct stationing Jupiter, is ready to envision scenarios that bring new meaning to life.
Like a hot fire ready to burn a fresh path, the energy shift is palpable. Perfecting on November 23, 2: 57pm PT, at a mere one degree of Sagittarius, it’s the first syzygy after two rock-our-world-eclipses in the fixed signs. At last, flames light up a dark sky as we gaze upon the smiling faces of weary travelers. It’s time to turn the page and conjure a new narrative, or two.
People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. - Joseph Campbell
Jupiter the Way-Seeker
Before Luna’s entrance into Sagittarius, host Jupiter was already bestowing blessings from his favorite pebble-soaked creek in Pisces via trines to Venus, Mercury, and the Sun. In turn, each embarked on a baptismal swim with the Fishes making a holy vow of remembrance before trekking into the Archer’s sign. Wave after wave of the Scorpion’s penetrating stinger, we come to understand that pain isn’t a punishment. Like a homeopathic dose of poison, suffering can be a conduit to healing when we face our pain wholeheartedly.
Experience first, meaning later. – Chrstina Donell
This is exactly the medicine our Lady of Variable Fortune craves as she ventures from an inner journey to an outer quest that tests her core beliefs. Jupiter, moving direct hours after the New Moon, is vibrating a waterfall of power on her behalf; the spirit to move is strong as the Sun and Moon merge in Jupiter’s diurnal, masculine home.
Between now and December 21 Zeus retraces the final two degrees of Pisces, a watery escapade that began December 28, 2021. Themes of completion bubble to the surface. How has Jupiter’s Pandora Box changed you in the last 12 months? Look no further than the places where faith, empathy, and compassion have grown.
Traveling Companions
Sagittarius is the iconic seeker, the eternal traveler in mind, body, and spirit. Armed with a lightning bolt and an arrow tipped with conviction, novel experiences bring the Archer closer to Truth, testing ideals, and honing worldviews. It may be challenging, but the restless call to know fans the flames of pursuit as passion sparks new possibilities.
Use this lunation for a philosophical deep dive. What really matters to you in this life? Where and how do you access inspiration? What new stories are you ready to tell?
If invoking the potentiality of the New Moon is your thing link here for AO’s ceremony suggestion. It’s the perfect New Moon for such endeavoring.
Luna joyfully looks to her travel companions, Venus and Mercury, for deeper understanding. Relationships test our newfound stories, while a loquacious but debilitated Mercury looks for every opportunity to speak the truth. Practice restraint, if you can. Sagittarius has a righteous, moral side that can disenfranchise others. Spoon out the alphabet soup gently and make sure your fervent presentation doesn’t burn the tongue.
Remember, Mars and Neptune have been engaging in their own zealous dialogue, muddying the waters without even trying. And if that isn’t enough mutability to tweak your known reality, this Sagittarius lunation boasts six of the visible planets (and Neptune) in double-bodied signs. Resist the urge to anchor your flag in cement. It’s best to be flexible and keep an open mind as we continue to ride the erratic winds of change.
The Moon Journeys On
Strapped to her racehorse, Luna rides onward—a bumpy terrain littered with opportunities that will challenge dogmatic ideas, as we shake our fists in the air. Mercury, Venus, and the Sun will come to oppose Mars Rx and square off with Neptune between November 27 and December 5 (using a 3-degree orb). And on December 7, the Full Moon in Gemini adheres to Mars exxxxactly at 16 degrees. A testy, testing time, indeed, complete with stark illumination emphasized by Mercury’s heliacal rise on December 6.
Immersed in conflictual complexities, there’s no need to throw water on the flames. Sitting in the fire has the alchemical ability to cull a deeper understanding of what it is we’re willing to fight for. But adding more fuel to the fire isn’t necessary either. With sextiles to Saturn, temperance and tolerance are available if we’re willing to take a few deep breaths and press the pause button. Saturn is happy to take a slow approach.
What tools do you have in your backpack to deal with confrontation? Resist old patterns of fight, flight, or freeze.
By the time Luna ends her epic quest, one that began with the Sagittarius Moon and ends just after the Winter Solstice, the energy will have shifted dramatically from mutable to cardinal. Mercury ingresses Capricorn on December 6 followed by Venus on December 9, and then Jupiter reenters Aries on December 20.
Carpe Diem!
Half man, half horse, this bi-corporeal New Moon doubles down on the visioning process natural to all New Moons. Riddled with wild optimism and domesticated hope, use the month ahead to examine your core principles and imagine how you will live them anew. By Winter Solstice, the changes catalyzed during the eclipses should begin to make more sense with Mercury and Venus having emerged from the rays of the Sun.
Active hope is a readiness to discover the size and strength of our hearts, our quickness of mind, our steadiness of purpose, our own authority, our love for life, the liveliness of our curiosity, the unsuspected deep well of patience and diligence, the keenness of our senses, and our capacity to lead. None of these can be discovered in an armchair or without risk. – Joanna Macy
